Monte Perdido
The ascent of Monte Perdido is a fairly heavy multi-day hiking or trekking in the Spanish Pyrenees.
The highest peak of Sobrabe towers with its 3355 meters far above the rest, and because it is visible from a large part of the region, it invites the adventurous hiker out for a climb.
Although it is sometimes done by 'young guns' in a day, this is not recommended. Especially for people who do not regularly walk in the mountains a climb of over 2000 meters total in a day is not recommended.
But do not worry. Halfway is a cabin available. However, this cabin is often full. Timely booking is essential.

About the trekking
The climb is a route through the Grand Canyon of Europe: the National Parc of Ordesa y Monte Perdido. The hiking is done on your own, according to our briefing. In summary the individual package will look like this:
Day 1
Briefing and transfer with your own car to the starting place of the trek: Torla, near the entrance of the national parc Ordesa y Monte Perdido. From here you take the bus (high season) to the parking lot in the national parc (rest of the year you can drive up here), where your first day trek starts. We hike over Faja de Pelay to the end of the Ordesa Valley passing cascades and massive walls that were formed by glaciers . On our way there's some nice picknick spots. The reward is there: after a day of hard work you can relax and have drink in Refugio de Goriz (2200mtr). Here you'll spend the next night.
distance: about 10 kilometers
difference in altitude: 900 meters up
walking time: about 4 to 5 hours excl. breaks
Day 2
An early start. Breakfast and a climb from Refugio de Goriz to the peak of Monte Perdido at 3355 mtr, where you'll arrive around noon. You'll be rewarded with 360 degrees of views and an "on top of the world feel". You'll descend back to the hut in about 3 to 4 hours, and back through the Ordesa vally (instead of Faja de Pelay). Finally you'll reach the parking lot, where your transfer is awaiting you.
distance: about 15 kilometers
difference in altitude: 1150 meters up, 2000 meters down
Walking time: about 8 hours excl. breaks
